BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 16, 2015) - On Wednesday, the 18th-ranked LIU Post men's soccer team defeated Wilmington University, 2-1, in an overtime thriller at Pioneer Soccer Park.

Playing on their home grass for the first time in 2015, the Pioneers (3-1-1) found themselves down at halftime after the Wildcats (3-1) opened the scoring in the 33rd minute.

Early in the second half, things got chippy between the two squads, as three yellow cards were issued within the first 10 minutes of play. Wilmington's Adrian Tash was shown a yellow in the 46th minute, LIU Post's Oliver Hollingsaeter (Alesund, Sweden) was given a card in the 48th minute, and Lance Berry was cautioned in the 50th minute.

For most of the latter stanza, the green and gold looked to push the tempo. They were eventually awarded a corner kick in the 63rd minute. Junior forward Johann Kristjansson (Reykjavik, Iceland) connected on the corner, as he headed a Matias Ruiz (Southampton, N.Y.) cross into the net for the game-tying goal.

The teams would play to a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation with the Pioneers hanging onto momentum.

In the 98th minute, Wilmington was called for a foul and Ruiz, this time on the near side, set up the free kick. The senior sent in a cross that found the head of fellow senior Per Forgaard (Stavanger, Norway), who netted it for the game-winner.

On the defensive side of the ball, sophomore David Arvidsson (Gothenburg, Sweden), graduate Seb Baxter (Saffron Walden, England) and red-shirt sophomore Erik Berthagen (Gothenburg, Sweden) held the back line in tact for most of the match. Senior keeper Jesper Malmstrom (Linkopping, Sweden) made three saves to earn his third win of the season.

Head Coach Andreas Lindberg and his LIU Post squad return to the pitch on Saturday (Sept. 19), when they host Northern Boulevard rival New York Institute of Technology in their 2015 East Coast Conference opener at Pioneer Soccer Park. The opening kick is slated for 3 p.m.
