BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 19, 2015) - On Saturday, the 18th-ranked LIU Post men's soccer team edged East Coast Conference rival New York Institute of Technology, 1-0, in its 2015 ECC opener at Pioneer Soccer Park.
The Pioneers (4-1-1, 1-0 ECC) got off to a good start, as freshman midfielder
Charlie Ledula (London, England) scored in the 22nd minute to stake the hosts to a 1-0 lead. Senior midfielder
Per Forgaard (Stavanger, Norway) chipped a pass into the center of the field, where Ledula dribbled to his right and sent in a shot to the right of the keeper for his second goal of the season.
From there, the Pioneer defense kept the Bears (2-3-1, 0-1 ECC) at bay.
Despite NYIT outshooting the Pioneers, 9-8, at the end of 90 minutes, just one of the Bears' shots were on target. Senior keeper
Jesper Malmstrom (Linkopping, Sweden) kept the shot out to earn his second clean sheet of the year.
Head Coach
Andreas Lindberg and the Pioneers return to the pitch on Wednesday (Sept. 23), when they head to Washington, D.C. to take on University of the District of Columbia in an ECC battle. The opening kick is slated for 2 p.m.
