BOYDS, Md. (Sept. 23, 2015) - Trailing 1-0 with just over 15 minutes to go in regulation, the 18th-ranked LIU Post men's soccer team rallied to defeat University of the District of Columbia, 2-1, in double overtime in East Coast Conference action on Wednesday.
In the opening half, senior keeper
Jesper Malmstrom (Linkopping, Sweden) made six saves for the Pioneers (5-1-1, 2-0 ECC) to keep it scoreless after the first 45 minutes.
Then, in the 69th minute, the Firebirds (1-5-1, 0-2 ECC) broke the tie. Sophomore forward Maurice Schwab (Vornholz Weg, Germany) scored on a shot from inside the 18-yard box to put UDC in front.
It wasn't until the 85th minute that LIU Post would answer. Senior forward
Per Forgaard (Stavanger, Norway) buried a cross-pass from junior forward
Johann Kristjansson (Reykjavik, Iceland) to even the match and force overtime.
Less than three minutes into the second extra session, sophomore forward
Jason Lampkin (Hawardon, North Wales, U.K.) collected the rebound off his own shot and put back the game-winner.
In all, UDC outshot LIU Post, 22-21, but Malmstrom made a season-high 10 saves to earn his fifth win.

Andreas Lindberg and the Pioneers return to the pitch on Saturday (Sept. 26), when they travel to Flushing, N.Y. to take on Queens College in an ECC battle. The opening kick is slated for 3 p.m.
