BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 23, 2016) - Senior forward/midfielder
Julia Backman (Morsil, Sweden) notched a pair of first-half goals Sunday to lead the No. 25 LIU Post women's soccer team to a 3-0 win versus East Coast Conference foe St. Thomas Aquinas College at Pioneer Soccer Park.
Backman got the Pioneers (11-2-2, 5-1-1 ECC) on the scoreboard in the 11th minute, when she bent a free kick around the wall and into the top-right corner of the mesh.
Then, in the 24th minute, Backman fired an
Andrea Huntzinger (Stockholm, Sweden) cross into the same spot of the net to widen LIU Post's lead to 2-0.
The Pioneers eventually took a 2-0 advantage into the intermission, and added another goal in the second half to put the game away for good.
In the 78th minute, junior back
Kristen Breihof (Levittown, N.Y.) played a corner kick into the 18-yard box, which senior back/midfielder
Katie Kingston (Wantagh, N.Y.) finished for her first goal of 2016.
LIU Post outshot St. Thomas Aquinas (11-2-2, 5-1-1 ECC) by a commanding 34-2 count in the match. The Pioneers also held a 6-0 edge in corner kicks.
