PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 26, 2016) - The No. 22 LIU Post women's soccer team ran its unbeaten streak to 11 games Wednesday with a 2-0 shutout of Pace University in non-conference action at Pace Stadium.
Despite being outshot 12-10 in the contest, the Pioneers (12-2-2), who have not allowed a goal in their last nine contests, tallied a pair of second-half goals to earn their fourth-consecutive victory.
Less than 10 minutes into the latter session, junior midfielder
Klara Berggren (Stockholm, Sweden) broke the scoreless tie. After
Julia Backman (Morsil, Sweden) headed a ball towards the net, Berggren buried a shot into the right side of the net for the game's opening marker.
Then, in the 75th minute, LIU Post added a key insurance goal. Freshman forward
Julia Duffy (Oceanside, N.Y.) played a long ball for a streaking
Medina Mulic (Ridgewood, N.Y.), who beat Pace (9-6-2) junior goalkeeper Hayley Pascoal (Freehold, N.J.) on a breakaway to extend the visitors' lead to 2-0.
Between the pipes, sophomore goalie
Hillevi Eklow (Väröbacka, Sweden) made a game-high five saves for the Pioneers.
Head Coach
Mark Dawson and his LIU Post squad wrap up the 2016 regular season Saturday (Oct. 29), when they face New York Institute of Technology in an ECC showdown at noon in Old Westbury.
