BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Nov. 12, 2016) - On Saturday, the LIU Post men's basketball team suffered a 78-66 defeat to University of the Sciences in Philadelphia in its 2016-17 season opener at the Pratt Recreation Center.

The Pioneers (0-1) and Devils (1-0) played an evenly-contested first half, as neither team led by more than four points in the opening 20 minutes of play.

Freshman forward Hall Elisias (Valley Stream, N.Y.) dunked on the fast break late in the period to give the hosts a 29-28 lead, but LIU Post trailed 33-31 at the intermission.

In the second half, U. Sciences opened things up with a 15-3 run to build its advantage to double digits (48-34) at the 13:11 mark.

That proved to be all the Devils needed, as the Pioneers only pulled within a nine-point margin (55-46) the rest of the way.

The green and gold shot 44.6 percent (25-of-56) from the floor and 77.8 percent (7-of-9) from the charity stripe in the loss.

Senior guard Jemal Mosley (Nanuet, N.Y.) finished with a team-high 14 points. Senior forward Greg Dotson (Abington, Pa.) totaled 13 points and three rebounds. Freshman guard Jared Rivers (Westbury, N.Y.) had 12 points, four assists and two assists in his collegiate debut. Red-shirt junior guard Aary Bibens (Bennington, Vt.) added eight points, three rebounds and three assists.

Head Coach Erik Smiles and the Pioneers are back in action Sunday (Nov. 13), when they face Wilmington University at 3 p.m. in the LIU Post Tip-Off Tournament at the Pratt Recreation Center.
