BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Mar. 2, 2016) - Six different Pioneers tallied multiple goals Wednesday to propel the No. 9/9 LIU Post men's lacrosse team to a 16-3 trampling of St. Thomas Aquinas College at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.
Freshman attackman/midfielder
Thomas Liantonio (Miller Place, N.Y.) had three of the game's first four tallies for the green and gold, and LIU Post (1-2) took off from there.
The Pioneers eventually led by a commanding 10-0 advantage at halftime. Senior attackmen
Matt Bellando (Miami, Fla.) and
Matty Beccaris (North Babylon, N.Y.) each contributed two goals apiece in the opening 30 minutes.
In the third quarter, LIU Post quickly put the game away for good, scoring three unanswered goals over the first 4:01. Senior attackman
Ryan Slane (North Babylon, N.Y.) recorded back-to-back markers in that stretch, while sophomore midfielder
Dylan Harned (Selden, N.Y.) added his second tally of the contest.
Bellando totaled a game-high six points (2 G, 4 A) and five ground balls in the victory. Slane earned two goals and two assists for four points. Freshman attackman/midfielder
Frank Ranfone (Guilford, Conn.) pitched in a three-point day (2 G, 1 A).
Junior defenseman
Ryan Stern (Shoreham, N.Y.) scooped up a game-best six ground balls and caused one turnover. Between the pipes, senior goalie
Adam Winne (Ridgefield, Conn.) made six saves in his first start of 2016.
LIU Post dominated STAC (0-3) in shots (55-10) and ground balls (43-23), in addition to winning 16-of-22 (72.7 percent) faceoffs. The Pioneers were also 12-of-14 (85.7 percent) on clear attempts.

John Jez and his LIU Post squad return to action Saturday (Mar. 5), when they begin a four-game road trip in Rochester at East Coast Conference foe Roberts Wesleyan College. The opening faceoff is set for 1 p.m.
