BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 10, 2016) - Leading 22-20 in the third quarter, the LIU Post football team scored 21 unanswered second-half points to earn a 43-20 win against University of New Haven in its 2016 home and Northeast-10 Conference opener Saturday at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.
The Pioneers (2-0, 1-0 NE-10) found the end zone on their first three drives of the latter half, using nearly 12 minutes in the process. On the hosts' first series of the third quarter, senior quarterback
Jeff Kidd (Salem, Ore.) dove for a one-yard touchdown run to extend LIU Post's advantage to 29-20.
Kidd followed that up by staging a 10-play, 73-yard drive in 3:24. resulting in a 14-yard touchdown pass to red-shirt senior wide receiver
Shane Hubbard (St. Albans, N.Y.). Kidd completed a stellar 31-of-37 (83.8 percent) passes on the day for 336 yards and four touchdowns.
In the fourth quarter, senior running back
David White (Bronx, N.Y.) ripped off a 15-yard touchdown run, widening the gap to 43-20 with 7:59 left. He ran for 33 of his team-high 53 yards on that possession alone.
During the opening half, Kidd hooked up with red-shirt junior wideout
James Higgins (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) for a pair of touchdowns, the first of which came on a 26-yard post route. That got the green and gold out to a 15-3 cushion.
In the Pioneers' drive that followed Higgins' second touchdown, Kidd found red-shirt sophomore running back
Malik Pierre (Holbrook, N.Y.) for a 32-yard catch-and-run to the end zone, making it a 22-3 game.
Hubbard recorded 10 catches for 87 yards and a touchdown in the victory. Pierre chipped in six receptions for 65 yards and a TD. Higgins hauled in four passes for 49 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Red-shirt junior defensive lineman
Jess Agbotse (Hackensack, N.J.) made eight tackles (two solo, six assist) and added a sack. Four other players had six tackles apiece. Red-shirt senior defensive lineman
Kenny Scotland (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) and red-shirt junior defensive lineman
Anthony DeNunzio (Seaford, N.Y.) each registered 1.5 sacks.
