EASTON, Mass. (Sept. 17, 2016) - The LIU Post football team exploded for seven touchdowns Saturday in a 51-20 rout of Northeast-10 Conference rival Stonehill College at W.B. Mason Stadium.
Senior quarterback
Jeff Kidd (Salem, Ore.) completed 21-of-26 passes for 309 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for a game-high 98 yards and a TD, including a 70-yard keeper in the second quarter.
Kidd's 70-yard dash sparked a drive that led to a go-ahead touchdown for the Pioneers (3-0, 2-0 NE-10). After Kidd's run set the visitors up at the Skyhawks' (0-3, 0-2 NE-10) two-yard line, red-shirt sophomore running back
Malik Pierre (Holbrook, N.Y.) plunged into the end zone to give the green and gold a slight 16-14 edge.
Though Stonehill went back in front on a subsequent Matthew Haite (Kingston, Mass.) field goal, LIU Post took a 23-17 advantage into the intermission.
In the second half, the Pioneers dominated on the offensive side of the ball, outscoring the Skyhawks, 28-3, in the final 30 minutes.
LIU Post quickly extended its lead, as it scored on its opening possession of the third quarter. Kidd completed all four of his passes in the series, including a 34-yard touchdown strike to red-shirt junior wide receiver
Kyle Ward (Elizabeth, N.J.).
From there, the Pioneers pulled away. Pierre added a three-yard touchdown run on the green and gold's ensuing drive, while Kidd connected with red-shirt senior wide receiver
Shane Hubbard (St. Albans, N.Y.) for a 40-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.
In the receiving corps, Hubbard made seven catches on the night for 98 yards and a TD. Ward hauled in three receptions for a game-best 108 yards and two touchdowns.
Red-shirt junior defensive back
Jared Chester (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) collected 11 tackles (four solo, seven assist) in the effort. Red-shirt junior defensive lineman
Anthony DeNunzio (Seaford, N.Y.) amassed nine tackles (five solo, four assist), in addition to 2.5 sacks and a pair of forced fumbles. Junior defensive back
Richard Wright (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had seven solo stops and assisted on another in an eight-tackle performance.
