BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 14, 2016) - An 83rd-minute tally from junior midfielder
Harry Pearse (London, England) sent the No. 8 LIU Post men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Post University Wednesday at Pioneer Soccer Park.
Pearse's goal came off a well-struck free kick that hit the bottom of the crossbar and bounced into the net, breaking a scoreless tie with 7:44 remaining in regulation.
The Pioneers (5-0) owned an 11-7 edge in shots in the contest and held the Eagles (2-3) without a shot on goal for the full 90 minutes.
In the first half, junior back
Johan Mauritzson (Halmstad, Sweden) had a late opportunity to put LIU Post on the board, but his attempt was stopped by Post (2-3) senior goalkeeper Jon Hanlon (Centereach, N.Y.).
Between the pipes, senior netminder
Jesper Malmstrom (Linkopping, Sweden) earned his third-consecutive shutout for the Pioneers. It is also the 17th clean sheet of Malmstrom's career.
The victory extended LIU Post's winning streak to five straight games to start the season. Additionally, the Pioneers captured their 20th-straight win at home, dating back to 2013.
Head Coach
Andreas Lindberg and his LIU Post squad return to the pitch Saturday (Sept. 17), when they host Queens College in their 2016 East Coast Conference opener at Pioneer Soccer Park. Kickoff is slated for 2:30 p.m.
