BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Sept. 8, 2016) - On Thursday, five different goal scorers led the eighth-ranked LIU Post men's soccer team to a 5-0 victory over No. 15 Merrimack College at the Bridgeport Men's Soccer Classic, hosted by University of Bridgeport.

The Pioneers (3-0) used a four-goal second half to run away from the Warriors (2-1). Senior keeper Jesper Malmstrom (Linkopping, Sweden) made five saves to pick up the win.

In the 31st minute, sophomore forward Charlie Ledula (London, England) found the back of the net for his third goal of the season, off an assist from junior midfielder Harry Pearse (London, England). That gave the green and gold a 1-0 advantage.

LIU Post held a 6-2 advantage in shots in the first 45 minutes. Malmstrom was called upon to make a pair of saves in the first half.

In the second half, it was all Pioneers.

Under a minute into the latter period, senior midfielder Alex Hailes (Whitchurch, England) scored his first goal as a Pioneer, after getting a pass from senior forward Maxime Devillaz (Stehag, Sweden).

From there, graduate midfielder Alex Billington (Preston, England), senior forward Jason Lampkin (Hawardon, North Wales, U.K.) and Pearse all scored less than three minutes apart to put the game away for good.

Malmstrom made three saves in the final 45 minutes to post his first clean sheet of 2016.

Head Coach Andreas Lindberg and the Pioneers return to action on Saturday (Sept. 10), when they take on Dominican College in their final match of the Bridgeport Men's Soccer Classic. The opening kick is set for 4 p.m.
