CLARION, Pa. (Jan. 13, 2017) - On Friday, the LIU Post football team had 11 players recognized to the 2016 Don Hansen Football Gazette All-Super Region I Team.

The Pioneers' 11 selections were the third-most of any program in Super Region I, trailing only Shepherd and California (Pa.).

Red-shirt junior safety Jared Chester (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) led the way with a first-team nod. He was tabbed the Northeast-10 Conference and ECAC Division II Defensive Player of the Year, after making a team-high 78 tackles (42 solo, 36 assist) and picking off a league-best seven passes. His 78 tackles were third-most amongst the conference's defensive backs, as well.

Senior quarterback Jeff Kidd (Salem, Ore.) and red-shirt senior wide receiver Shane Hubbard (St. Albans, N.Y.) were chosen to the Football Gazette All-Super Region I Second Team.

Kidd, who was named the NE-10 Most Valuable Player, started in all 11 games he appeared in, and led the NE-10 in completions (248), completion percentage (.653), passing yards (2,825), passing yards per game (256.8) and passing touchdowns (28) this season.

Hubbard fueled the LIU Post receiving corps in 2016 with a team-high 92 catches for 1,048 yards and nine touchdowns. It was the second time in three years that he eclipsed the 1,000-yard single-season plateau. Furthermore, Hubbard broke the program's three career receiving records (yards, receptions and touchdowns) in his final campaign as a Pioneer.

In the trenches, junior offensive tackle Joseph Lacey (Medford, N.Y.) and red-shirt sophomore offensive guard James Louison (Hauppauge, N.Y.) were honored as second-team selections.

Lacey and Louison, both of whom were chosen to the All-NE-10 First Team, helped to pave the way for an offense that led the league in rushing yards (2,512), rushing touchdowns (30), passing yards (3,111), passing touchdowns (30) and third-down conversion percentage (.492).

On defense, junior defensive end Kevin Petit-Frere (Amityville, N.Y.) and freshman defensive back Joshua Flowers (Mount Laurel, N.J.) earned spots on the All-Super Region I Second Team.

Petit-Frere collected 39 tackles (22 solo, 17 assist) on the year and tied for the third-most sacks (2.5) on the team. Additionally, he recorded 13 quarterback hurries, eight pass break-ups and a blocked kick.

Flowers, an NE-10 All-Rookie Team honoree, paced all rookies in the conference with six interceptions and ranked third in the league in pass break-ups (14). He also amassed 62 tackles (44 solo, 18 assist) in the process.

The green and gold boasted four selections on the Football Gazette All-Super Region I Third Team. They were senior running back David White (Bronx, N.Y.), red-shirt senior defensive end Kenny Scotland (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.), red-shirt junior defensive tackle Anthony DeNunzio (Seaford, N.Y.) and red-shirt junior return specialist Kyle Ward (Elizabeth, N.J.).

White spearheaded the Pioneers' ground attack this season, rushing for a league-leading 1,054 yards and eight touchdowns. He became the team's first 1,000-yard rusher since Thomas Beverly in 2009 and surpassed the 100-yard single-game mark on four separate occasions.

Scotland had 31 tackles (19 solo, 12 assist) in 2016, including the second-most tackles for a loss (11.0) on the team. Meanwhile, DeNunzio registered 72 tackles (36 solo, 36 assist), and led the Pioneers in sacks (8.0), tackles for loss (12.5) and forced fumbles (3).

Lastly, Ward took back 16 kickoffs for 448 yards, including a long of 61 yards that led to a touchdown-scoring drive in a 22-7 win over American International on Oct. 22. His average of 28.0 yards per return was third-best amongst the league's leaders.
