DANBURY, Conn. (Jan. 19, 2017) - The Eastern College Athletic Conference revealed its 2016 Football Teams of the Year on Thursday, and LIU Post earned the distinct honor for Division II.

The Pioneers will be recognized on Feb. 23 at the Eastern College Football Awards Banquet at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

In 2016, LIU Post had its best finish in program history. The Pioneers set a new single-season record for wins with a 12-1 mark and captured their second Northeast-10 Conference title in three years.

Furthermore, LIU Post, which finished as the runner-up in the Lambert Cup Division II standings, advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division II Championship.

The green and gold also boasted an impressive nine ECAC All-Star selections, including ECAC Defensive Player of the Year Jared Chester (Mount Vernon, N.Y.).

Senior quarterback Jeff Kidd (Salem, Ore.) piloted an offense that led the NE-10 in nearly every key statistical category. He completed 65.2 percent (248-of-380) of his passes for 2,825 yards and 28 touchdowns, en route to being named the league's Most Valuable Player.

Senior running back David White (Bronx, N.Y.) became the team's first 1,000-yard rusher since Thomas Beverly in 2009. He paced the conference with 1,054 rushing yards and eclipsed the 100-yard single-game mark on four separate occasions.

Red-shirt senior wide receiver Shane Hubbard (St. Albans, N.Y.) surpassed 1,000 yards for the second time in his career, after hauling in 92 receptions for 1,048 yards and nine touchdowns. Additionally, he shattered the program's career receiving records in the process.

Meanwhile, Chester fueled a defensive unit that limited the opposition to the third-fewest points per game (20.9) in the NE-10. He finished the year with a team-high 78 tackles (42 solo, 36 assist) and intercepted a league-best seven passes.

In the trenches, junior defensive tackle Anthony DeNunzio (Seaford, N.Y.) broke through for 72 tackles (36 solo, 36 assist) and eight sacks. Red-shirt senior defensive end Kenny Scotland (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) added 4.5 sacks off the edge.
