Yianni Gavalas completed 14-of-16 passes for 184 yards and four touchdowns as LIU Post (5-2, 4-2 NE-10) claimed its second straight win with a 70-21 victory against conference rival American International College (2-5, 2-4 NE-10) on Saturday at Abdow Field.
The Pioneers racked up 605 yards compared to 441 for the Yellow Jackets and ran five less plays (59-64) than AIC.
LIU Post came away with touchdowns on each of its first four possessions and never looked back. AIC won the coin toss but elected to kick off, it then took 4:30 for the Pioneers to get on the board. Mixing the run and pass, Gavalas guided Pioneers 65 yards in 10 plays. He capped the drive with a 12-yard pass to
Deon Mash into the end zone.
On LIU Post's next series, it took less than three minutes to add to the total. The Pioneers covered 67 yards in seven plays and Gavalas connected with Mash once more for the six-yard touchdown pass. A 49-yard run from
Malik Pierre on the team's third possession pushed the LIU Post advantage to 21-0, before trotting in the Pioneers' fourth touchdown -Pierre's second- to give the Green and Gold a 28-point lead at the half.
AIC's first touchdown of the game come on the opening possession of the second half, a five-yard scoring pass form Kwame Jarvis to Ju'an Williams made it 28-7. Jarvis would throw two more touchdowns in the game, one in the third quarter, and one in the fourth, but it wasn't enough as the Pioneers cruised to a 70-21 win.
The Pioneers outran AIC, rushing for 424 yards in 42 attempts and tallied five rushing touchdowns on the afternoon.
