Mansfield, Mass – The NE-10 Conference released its weekly awards on Monday afternoon, and amongst the winners was senior
Emilia Herran.
Additionally, Kate Melvin,
Julie Gysels, and Rachel Vellis all appeared on the Weekly Honor Roll for field hockey, while Yianni Gavalas appeared on the Weekly Honor roll for football
Emilia Herran (Sr.) – Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week
Herran helped fifth-rank LIU Post to back-to-back wins last week. The Pioneers earned their sixth shutout of the season blanking AIC 6-0, where Herran was credited with an assist in the game's final goal. LIU Post conceded the game's opening goal but answered with back-to-back goals to clinch the fourth seed for the Pioneers.
Kate Melvin (Fr.) – Field Hockey Weekly Honor Roll
Melvin contributed two four points (1g, 2 a) in LIU Post's 2-0 record last week. On Saturday, Melvin assisted on the equalizer before netting the game-winning goal to take down #6 Stonehill 2-1. Melvin has three goals on the year and has contributed with 10 assists for 16 points.
Julie Gysels (Jr.) – Field Hockey Weekly Honor Roll
Gysels tallied five points on two goals and an assist in LIU Post's 2-0 week over AIC and Stonehill. On Wednesday, Gysels assisted in the game's opening goal and scored twice to down the Yellow Jackets 6-0.
Rachel Vellis (Fr.) – Field Hockey Weekly Honor Roll
Vellis earned a 2-0 week to complete the regular season 15-3 in her rookie campaign. She turned away three shots and earned her sixth shutout of the season in the 6-0 win over American Int'l.
Yianni Gavalas (Sr.) – Football Weekly Honor Roll
Gavalas completed 25 of his 34 tries through the air, good for a 73.5% completion rate in a 41-14 win over Pace. The Manhasset, N.Y. native accumulated 327 pass yards and connected for four touchdowns on the day as the Pioneers rolled to a 41-14 win on the road.
