BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Feb. 11, 2017) - Sophomore attackman/midfielder
Frank Ranfone (Guilford, Conn.) went off for a game-high seven goals Saturday to lead the No. 7/8 LIU Post men's lacrosse team to a 21-4 rout of American International College in its 2017 home opener at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.
Ranfone tallied seven goals on 10 shots and added two assists for a nine-point output. Junior attackman
Chris Trasacco (Cheshire, Conn.) totaled six points, off two goals and four assists. Junior midfielder
Dylan Harned (Selden, N.Y.) amassed five points (3 G, 2 A) and caused a pair of turnovers.
In the first quarter, the Pioneers (2-1) converted six goals on 17 opportunities to grab an early 6-0 advantage. Ranfone accounted for four of the tallies, including a shorthanded marker. Freshman midfielder
Austin Guerrina (Longwood, Fla.) notched a man-up goal.
Then, in the second quarter, the green and gold tacked on another six-spot, en route to bringing a 12-0 lead into the half. Freshman midfielder
Dan Foley (Carmel, N.Y.) recorded a pair of even-strength goals in the streak. Ranfone, Harned and sophomore midfielder
Steven Frank (Hauppauge, N.Y.) each added an unassisted tally.
In the third period, LIU Post, which outshot AIC (0-1) by a 4-to-1 margin (49-12) in the contest, netted the first four goals of the quarter to seal the victory. Ranfone was the key catalyst yet again for the Pioneers, earning two goals and an assist in the spurt.
Senior defenseman
Ryan Stern (Shoreham, N.Y.) amassed a game-high four ground balls and three caused turnovers in the win. Junior midfielder
Kris Alvarado (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) scooped up three ground balls and forced one turnover. Junior defenseman
Joey Denaro (Oceanside, N.Y.) won two ground balls and caused two turnovers.
On faceoffs, senior midfielder
Anthony Galeotafiore (Wantagh, N.Y.) and sophomore midfielder
Connor Farrell (Holtsville, N.Y.) combined for a 20-of-27 (74.1 percent) showing. Galeotafiore also won nine ground balls, while Farrell scooped up eight ground balls.

John Jez and his LIU Post squad return to action next Saturday (Feb. 18), when they host No. 3/3 Merrimack College in a non-conference showdown at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium at noon.
