BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Apr. 21, 2017) - The LIU Post baseball team bounced back Friday with a 9-4 victory over Southern Connecticut State University in a non-conference tilt at the LIU Post Baseball Field.
Following two scoreless innings to start the game, the Pioneers (18-15) exploded for seven unanswered runs over the next three frames to grab a commanding 7-0 advantage.
In the third, junior outfielder
Rob Andreoli (North Wantagh, N.Y.) got the hosts on the board with a one-out RBI single through the right side.
Later in the frame, senior outfielder
Kenny Daley (Glenwood Landing, N.Y.), who also reached on a single, came home on a wild pitch to extend LIU Post's lead to 2-0.
Then, in the fourth, Andreoli struck again, lining an RBI double to right-center to score Daley.
In the fifth, junior shortstop
Joe Spitaleri (Levittown, N.Y.) joined in on the hit parade with a two-RBI single through the right side, which made it a 7-0 game.
Though the Owls (20-9-1) eventually rallied to close the gap to 9-4 in the ninth, freshman pitcher
Pat McCabe (North Babylon, N.Y.) shut the door to seal the victory for the Pioneers.
Sophomore pitcher
Brian Kavanagh (East Meadow, N.Y.) threw six strong innings for LIU Post in the win. He let up just four hits, two runs and two walks, while striking out six.
Andreoli finished with a 4-for-4 day with two RBI. Sophomore outfielder
Dave Brehm (Bohemia, N.Y.) added a 3-for-5 showing. Sophomore third baseman
Jimmy Mendyk (Massapequa, N.Y.) went 3-for-4 and scored a pair of runs.

Mike Gaffney and the Pioneers are back in action Saturday (Apr. 22), when they host East Coast Conference rival Molloy College at noon at the LIU Post Baseball Field in Brookville.
