WACO, Texas - After picking up a win at the University of New Haven on Saturday for the first time since 2002, the LIU Post football team moved up to No. 9 in this week's edition of the American Football Coaches' Association Division II Top-25 Poll, as released on Monday.
This ranking comes after the green and gold held onto a 35-34 victory at New Haven. Graduate quarterback
Yianni Gavalas (Manhasset, N.Y.) finished the contest 41-for-54 for an astounding 405 yards and four touchdowns without tossing a pick leading to his first NE-10 Offensive Player of the Week honors. Redshirt-freshman
Derick Eugene (Westbury, N.Y.) hauled in double-digit catches as his 11 receptions led to 90 yards in the air.
LIU Post (2-0) received 560 points, after receiving 486 points last week for a 10th-best ranking. Fellow Northeast-10 Conference school Assumption grabbed 43 votes. The Pioneers and the Greyhounds are set to face-off on Saturday, Sept. 30 at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.
Northwest Missouri St. retained the top overall spot after receiving all 34 of the first place votes. Rounding out the Top-5 are Ferris St. (Mich.), Texas A&M-Commerce, Shepherd (W.Va.) and California (Pa.).
Head Coach
Bryan Collins and the Pioneers return to action Saturday, Sept. 16, when they return home to host Stonehill. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
