MANSFIELD, Mass. – The Northeast-10 Conference announced Monday that three LIU Post football players swept the weekly conference awards after a big 41-39 road victory at Shippensburg University on Saturday.
Graduate student quarterback
Chris Laviano, sophomore defensive back
Nazir Streater, and senior kicker
Joey Tolgyesi garnered Offensive, Defensive, and Special Teams Player of the Week honors, respectively.
Laviano's arm carried the Pioneers throughout the contests, as the local product reached season-highs in completions (39), passing yards (401), and touchdowns (4). Three of Laviano's four touchdown passes came during the second half, helping the Pioneers take the lead on three separate occasions during the fourth quarter.
On the defensive side, Streater's highlight-reel performance garnered national attention when his one-handed, diving interception earned the No. 2 spot in Sportscenter's Top 10 plays and took the top spot in ESPN's College Football Top 10 Plays of week six. Along with the interception, Streater matched redshirt-senior
Jake Carlock for the team lead with six tackles and added 182 return yards on five kickoff returns.
The comeback victory was capped off with a game-winning 34-yard field goal by Tolgyesi with one second remaining in regulation. Tolgyesi's game-winner was his third field goal of the day, finishing 3-for-3 on field goal attempts with 11 total points.
The Pioneers will look to keep rolling on Saturday, Oct. 13 when they host Saint Anselm College at 1:00 p.m. during Homecoming Weekend in Brookville. For a full list of events and to register your spot, please click
