GREENWOOD, Ind. – The College Sports Information Directors of America released the 2018 Division II Football Academic All-District honorees on Thursday, Nov. 15, garnering LIU Post's
Patrick Williams and
Tim Marinan with the prestigious recognition.
The Google Cloud Academic All-District program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must be a starter or key reserve player for their respective teams, participated in at least 50-percent of the team's contests, accomplished a 3.30 or better cumulative grade point average, and has reached sophomore athletic and academic standing and have attended at least one calendar year at their current institution.
After earning the Northeast-10 Conference's Elite 24 award after the conference championship game on Saturday, Williams adds the Academic All-District recognition to his resume for the second time with a cumulative 3.97 grade point average as a finance major. Head coach
Bryan Collins tabbed Williams as one of the team's five captains this season, and the redshirt-senior linebacker has stepped up with 45 total tackles, including four tackles for loss, one sack, and one interception.
On the offensive side, Marinan earns his first Academic All-District accolade after compiling a 3.86 GPA as a finance major. Collins also named Marinan a team captain this season and the junior running back tallied 233 rushing yards and 134 receiving yards, finding the end zone twice before suffering a season-ending injury during a week seven victory.
Both student-athletes are now eligible for the Google Cloud Academic All-America award, recognizing the best student-athletes across all of Division II. The 2018 Academic All-America teams will be announced on Tuesday, Dec. 11.
