BROOKVILLE, N.Y. –  Sophomores Paige Sherlock and Brianna Feldman combined for eight goals as the LIU Post women's lacrosse team opened the 2018 season with a convincing 16-7 victory against Southern New Hampshire University at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium Feb. 24.

The duo netted four goals apiece, while Feldman added two assists for a six-point afternoon. Classmate Jill LoManto led all players with seven points, all coming by way of assists. In cage, senior Olivia Kirk made 16 saves on 23 shots on goal. As a team, the Pioneers outshot the Penmen 40-32, and on the defensive end LIU Post was 19-of-24 on clearance attempts.

The Green and Gold jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the opening ten minutes behind goals from Feldman, freshman Jamie Alvino, juniors Trish Brisotti and Mackenzie Hitchcock. SNHU got on the board just over 12 minutes in, but the Pioneers responded with another four-goal burst to take an 8-1 lead. Two Penmen goals in the final ten minutes made it 9-3 LIU Post heading into halftime.

SNHU began the second half with three consecutive tallies, but LIU Post found the back of the net at the 18:55 mark when Sherlock netted her third of the game to spark a 5-0 run to push the lead to eight goals at 14-6, putting the game out of reach for good.

The Pioneers return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 28 when they host Bentley University at 3:00 p.m.
