Game One – LIU Post 4, SCSU 3 (11 Inn.)
The Owls jumped ahead early with an RBI-triple and scored one more run on a double play in the top of the first to take a 2-0 lead. The Pioneers plated one run in the bottom of the second on a Southern Connecticut State error, but the 2-1 score remained until the seventh inning when Andreoli and Brehm drove home runs with RBI-singles to give LIU Post its first lead of the afternoon, 3-2.
The Owls responded quickly in the top of the eighth inning, driving in a run with a single to center field and neither team could push across another run through nine innings.
In the 11th inning, Andreoli reached first on a fielding error by the shortstop and moved from first to third on a failed pickoff attempt. Two batters later, Brehm avoided a tag at first on an infield single down the first-base line for the walk-off hit and the Pioneers earned the series victory with a 4-3 final in the opener.
Game Two – LIU Post 7, SCSU 5
The Owls took the early advantage again with three runs in the top of the first. LIU Post answered with one run in the bottom half of the frame and later pulled even on a groundout by Spitaleri to make it 3-3 through four innings.
In the top of the fifth, the Owls took the lead once again with a two-run home run to left field to make it 5-3. The Green and Gold came alive with four runs in the bottom of the sixth, however, when the team took advantage of two Southern Connecticut State errors in the field to take a 7-5 lead for good. Kavanagh shut the door by retiring the side in order in the seventh as the Pioneers took all three games during the series to improve to 22-12 on the season.
The Pioneers return to action on Friday, April 20 when they return to East Coast Conference on the road at Mercy College beginning at 12:00 p.m.
