ECAC RELEASE

DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced the LIU Post football team as the recipient of the 2018 Lambert Cup for the top team in Division II as part of its major team award announcement on Wednesday, Jan. 16.

The Lambert Cup is presented to the top team in the ECAC at four different levels, including Division I Football Bowl Subdivision, Division I Football Championship Subdivision, Division II, and Division III. The Pioneers will be honored at the 83rd ECAC Football Awards Banquet at The Ridge in Danbury, Connecticut alongside the United States Military Academy (DI FBS), Colgate University (DI FCS), and Johns Hopkins University (DIII).

LIU Post completed the third unbeaten regular season in program history in 2018, finishing with an unblemished mark of 10-0, capped off with a thrilling 17-13 victory against the University of New Haven to earn the program's 13th conference championship. The Green and Gold garnered four Northeast-10 Conference major awards, including Coach of the Year (Bryan Collins), Defensive Player of the Year (Jake Carlock), Defensive Lineman of the Year (Kevin Petit-Frere), and Offensive Lineman of the Year (Chris Coles) to lead a group of 18 total all-conference honorees.

The Pioneers ranked fourth in Division II this season in scoring defense, allowing just 12.9 points per game during the 11-game stretch. As a team, LIU Post also ranked in the top-10 in interceptions with 18, led by sophomore Nazir Streater who picked off seven passes.
