DON HANSEN FOOTBALL GAZETTE RELEASE
CLARION, Pa. – The Don Hansen Football Gazette honored nine members of the LIU Post football team on Friday, Jan. 18 when the committee released the 2018 All-Super Region I teams for Division II.
Reigning Northeast-10 Conference Defensive Player of the Year
Jake Carlock leads a group of four first-team members that also included this year's NE10 Defensive Lineman of the Year,
Kevin Petit-Frere, the 2018 NE10 Offensive Lineman of the Year,
Chris Coles, and first-team all-NE10 honoree
Nazir Streater.
The Green and Gold also placed five individuals on the all-region second team, including place kicker
Joey Tolgyesi, defensive lineman
Abel Joseph, offensive lineman
James Louison, running back
Malik Pierre, and wide receiver
Michael Richardson.
Streater also garnered third team recognition as a return specialist on the all-region squad, following in the footsteps of his all-conference recognition this fall.
The Pioneers ranked fourth in the nation this season in scoring defense, allowing just 12.9 points per game. LIU Post also ranked eighth in Division II in passes intercepted with 18, while Streater ranked third in the country with 0.6 interceptions per game. Petit-Frere finished the year seventh in the nation in sacks per game at 1.05 to lead a defensive rush that produced over 2.6 sacks per game.
On the offensive side of the ball, Pierre and Richardson leave LIU Post as some of the greatest offensive weapons all time. Pierre graduates from LIU Post as the third leading rusher in program history with 3,114 yards on the ground over four seasons. Richardson finishes his career ranked second in program history with 29 receiving touchdowns and fourth in receiving yards with 2,259.
On special teams, Streater and Tolgyesi led a dynamic unit for the Pioneers. The Green and Gold ranked fifth in the country with four blocked kicks, with Carlock, Joseph, and Streater all notching blocks. Streater also ranked in the top-25 in return average at 26.7 yards per return. Tolgyesi had one of his best seasons as a senior, ranking 11th nationally in field goals per game after knocking through 14-of-19 attempts.
