Entering her eighth season as head coach, Raenee Savin is looking to continue the success stemming from back-to-back winning seasons, and will strive for success in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, unquestionably the most competitive field hockey conference in Division II.
Savin's teams have traditionally achieved great success in the classroom, receiving the NFHCA Division II National Academic Team award for the past four seasons. The 2009 team put together a 3.38 overall GPA, the fourth-highest team GPA in the nation.
The Pioneers finished 2009 with an 8-9 record, going 2-5 in the conference in their second season of competition in the PSAC. The 2008 season was the first in the PSAC competition for the Pioneers, who finished with a respectable 9-8 overall record. This followed a record setting 2007, as Savin led the squad to a 16-4 record, the winningest season in school history, and a berth to the NCAA Championships for the first time since 1983. The final NFHCA poll saw the Pioneers ranked sixth in the nation.
In just seven seasons, Savin has amassed the second-most wins in Pioneers history, with her 43 victories second behind Nancy Butler’s 69 wins. Savin has also seen several team and individual records broken under her tutelage, including the team record for most goals scored in a season (58 in 2007) and longest winning streak (12 games in 2007). In addition, senior Amber Limanni has shattered a number of individual records, including goals in a career (44), assists in a career (23) and goals in a season (23). 2008 saw another record fall under Savin’s guidance, as Krystal Napolitano broke the record for assists in a season with 13.
Savin became the tenth head coach in C.W. Post field hockey history in November 2002, after serving for four seasons as an assistant coach under former head coach Jessica Hammer. During Savin’s tenure as a Pioneer assistant, the team put together three consecutive winning seasons from 2000-02, including appearances in the postseason ECAC Tournament in 2001 and 2002.
A versatile athlete during her four years at C.W. Post, Savin played for four seasons with the Pioneer field hockey squad, seeing action for virtually every moment of her collegiate career. Savin also competed for four years on the C.W. Post softball team, helping the squad reach the NCAA Regionals during her final three seasons.
Savin graduated from C.W. Post with a degree in Physical Education in May 1999 and completed her master’s degree in Special Education in 2004. Savin and her husband, Andy Wetstein, reside in Nesconset, N.Y.
