FLUSHING, N.Y. (Oct. 22, 2008)-
Three different players scored for C.W. Post Wednesday afternoon, propelling the team past East Coast Conference rival Queens College, 3-2. The Pioneers tallied another win for their record, improving to 7-0 in the ECC and 14-1-1 overall. Queens College falls to 2-4 in conference play and 9-5 overall.

 

Andrea Slavin put the Knights on the board first, scoring an unassisted goal 14:09 into the first quarter. Sophomore Jackie Sousa (No. Reading, Mass) answered back 13 minutes later, knocking in a feed from teammate Tove Eriksson (Helsingborg, Sweden), scoring her third goal of the season.

 

Maria Sonnerborg (Bjarred, Sweden) opened the second half with her 14th goal of the season, giving C.W. Post a 2-1 lead as she drilled in a penalty kick in the 62nd minute. Junior Melissa Pascarella (Sayville, N.Y.) secured the win for the Pioneers, as she took advantage of a rebound off Queens College goalkeeper Crystal Butler. The goal was Pascarella's third of the season, improving her personal statistics to three goals and five assists. Katherine Colon attempted to rally the knights back in the 89th minute as she scored an unassisted goal, but the effort proved to be too little too late to pull her team ahead.

 

Allie Weiser (Grand Island, N.Y.) made five saves in net to earn her ninth win as goalkeeper for the Pioneers, advancing her personal record to 9-0-1. Queens College keeper Crystal Butler made three saves for the Knights. C.W. Post held an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks over Queens College.

 

The Pioneers will take the field again Saturday afternoon, as they support the Think Pink campaign in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. They will take on Molloy College at noon.
