Sonnerborg, Eriksson Score To Lead No. 3 Women's Soccer Past Molloy, 2-0; Pioneers Clinch ECC Regular Season Title

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 25, 2008)- The C.W. Post women's soccer team had a successful senior day, as they pulled out another win over East Coast Conference rival Molloy College Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Pioneers clinched the ECC regular season title and improve their record to 15-1-1 overall, and 7-0 in the conference, while the Lions fall to 6-7-2 overall, and 4-5 in the conference.
As C.W. Post chose the day to honor their senior class, senior Maria Sonnerborg (Bjarred, Sweden) tallied her 15th goal of the season. Sonnerborg took a five yard shot that bounced over the head of Molloy goalkeeper Paula Sinelli. Her goal put the Pioneers up 1-0 19 minutes into the first half. Freshman #Tove Eriksson# (Helsingborg, Sweden) ensured the win for the Pioneers as she took a ten yard shot, hitting the crossbar to notch the goal. Eriksson improved her personal stats to five goals and three assists for the season.
Freshman goalkeeper Allie Weiser (Grand Island, N.Y.) earned the win in net for the Pioneers, making two saves to improve her personal record to 10-0-1. The shut out was Weiser's seventh for the season. Molloy keeper Paula Sanelli made four saves in net. Corene Norniella finished the game in goal for the lions, making two saves.
C.W. Post held a 6-1 edge in corner kicks, while outshooting the Lions 15-3 for the afternoon.
C.W. Post takes the field again as they host the University of Bridgeport for their last regular season game, on October 31 at 3 p.m.
