DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Oct. 6, 2008) - Freshman Tove Eriksson (Helsingborg, Sweden) scored two unassisted goals, and sophomores Ivana Babic (Haninge, Sweden) and Jackie Sousa (North Reading, Mass.) each chipped in with a goal as the sixth-ranked Pioneers blanked the Mavericks on Monday afternoon, 4-0.
C.W. Post improves to 10-1-0 overall and 3-0 in the ECC, while Mercy slips to 1-3-1 overall and 0-2-1 in conference play.
Eriksson got the scoring started in the 21st minute as she sent a shot from 25 yards out that found the back of the net for a 1-0 Pioneer lead.
The Mavericks held the Pioneers scoreless after the initial goal, until the 71st minute, when Eriksson struck again, this time from 30-yards out with another goal for a 2-0 lead.
Babic scored just six minutes later as she sent a one-touch shot from Maria Sonnerborg (Bjarred, Sweden) into the back of the net for a 3-0 lead.
Sousa rounded out the scoring as she booted home a cross from Danielle DeLuca (Islip. N.Y.) in the 81st minute.
Sophomore keeper Deanna Esposito (Sayville, N.Y.) needed just one save to record the shutout, as the Pioneers outshot the Mavericks 20-3 and held a 12-0 edge in corner kicks.
The Pioneers return to action on October 11 as the host Dowling College in a noon matchup.
