C.W. Post Athletes Give Back, Participating In Recycling Program
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Nov. 17, 2008)- The C.W. Post athletics department has taken a step to give back to the community. Senior Jessica Scibilia (Mastic, N.Y.), a member of the C.W. Post field hockey team and the C.W. Post Recycling Program, has pioneered an effort to get her fellow athletes involved in a school-wide recycling campaign.
Scibilia, and the rest of the C.W. Post Recycling Program proposed the Green Team Competition, hoping that athletes would prove how environmentally conscious they could be. The Green Team Competition asked all athletes to recycle their mixed plastic and aluminum goods. The response proved to be overwhelming, as the University Facilities Department had to be called in to make a pick up due to overflowing bins. In a span of two weeks, the athletic department collected over 4,000 plastic water bottles, 300 cans and 15,000 aluminum flip tops.
The collaboration of the athletes and coaches to help in the effort demonstrated the immense pride and integrity that C.W. Post athletes carry both on and off the field.
