No. 8 Women's Soccer Shuts Out Bridgeport, 1-0, Capturing ECC Conference Championship

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Nov. 9, 2008)- The C.W. Post women's soccer team shut out East Coast Conference rival the University of Bridgeport, 1-0, Sunday afternoon to capture the title of East Coast Conference Championship. The win advances C.W. Post to the NCAA Northeast Regional Tournament to be played Nov. 14 and 16.
The Pioneers improve to a 17-2-1 overall record this season, while Bridgeport drops to 16-4-1. The Pioneers had dropped a 2-1 decision to the Purple Knights in the last game of their regular season play on Oct. 31.
Both teams held each other scoreless throughout the first 45 minutes of play action. Sophomore
Ivana Babic (Haninge, Sweden) put the Pioneers up on the board in the 49th minute when she scored her 12th goal of the season on a five-yard one touch shot after teammate
Sam Boschetti (Rockaway, N.J.) headed the ball off a service from freshman
Tove Eriksson (Helsingborg, Sweden). Babic improved her personal statistics to 12 goals and six assists this season, for a total of 30 points.
Freshman goalkeeper
Allie Weiser (Grand Island, N.Y.) faced seven shots on net for the afternoon to earn her ninth shutout of the season. Weiser's personal record improves to 12-1-1 with 54 saves this season. Bridgeport goalkeeper Elina Yletyinen made seven saves for the Purple Knights.
C.W. Post outshot Bridgeport 16-12 and held a 7-5 margin in corner kicks.
The first round of NCAA regional tournament play begins on Nov. 14. Tournament team selections and host sites will be announced on Nov. 10.
