Eight Players Earn All-Conference Accolades; Dawson Named ECC Coach Of The Year

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Nov. 9, 2008)- The East Coast Conference released its All-Conference and Player of the Year picks Sunday afternoon. C.W. Post had eight players named to all-conference teams, as well as earning Coach of the Year and Goalkeeper of the Year honors.
Sophomore Danielle DeLuca (Islip, N.Y.) was tabbed to the First Team All-Conference roster, along with teammate Anna Svensson (Stockholm, Sweden). DeLuca tallied two goals and three assists at the midfield position for C.W. Post, for a total of seven points. Svensson notched one assist as a defender and was an instrumental part of maintaining a .49 goals against average for the Pioneers.
Freshman goalkeeper Allie Weiser was named as the First team All-Conference goalkeeper. Weiser also garnered honors as the 2008 ECC Goalkeeper of the Year. Weiser helped C.W. Post to a 15-2-1 regular seson record, including seven shut outs. She was ranked 8th in the nation with a .520 goals against average and 4th with a .900 save percentage.
Forwards Ivana Babic (Haninge, Sweden) and Maria Sonnerborg (Bjarred, Sweden), and midfielder, freshman Tove Eriksson (Helsingborg, Sweden) were all ECC Second Team All-Conference picks. Sonnerborg led the Pioneers with 17 goals and four assists, for a total of 38 points. Babic was the second leading scorer, with 12 goals and six assists, including the game winning goal against the University of Bridgeport to clinch the ECC Conference Championships. Eriksson made nine starts and played in 20 games thus far for the Pioneers, notching a total of 15 points with five goals and four assists.
Junior captain Caitlin Mullady (Hauppauge, N.Y.) and sophomore Jackie Sousa (No. Reading, Mass) were both named ECC Third Team All-Conference picks. Mullady, a consistent force on the backline for C.W. Post, tallied two assists this season, making 15 starts in a Pioneer uniform. Sousa, a driving force in the midfield, made appearances in the starting line-up 18 times for the Pioneers, accumulating three goals and one assist.
Head Coach Mark Dawson was voted ECC Coach of the year by his peers for the 2008 season. In his first year as head coach for C.W. Post, Dawson guided the Pioneers to a 15-2-1 regular season finish, and claimed the ECC Regular Season title with a conference record of 8-1.
