Softball Releases 2009 Schedule; Pioneers Set To Open Season At Catawba Tournament In February

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Dec. 24, 2008) C.W. Post head softball coach Jamie Apicella released the schedule for the 2009 season today.  The Pioneers, who made their second straight appearance in the NCAA Division II College World Series, open their 55-game slate Feb. 27 at the Catawba Tournament, beginning with Bluefield State College and California University of Pennsylvania.
 
Apicella, in his 11th season at C.W. Post guided the Pioneers program-best 48-16 record in 2008 and returns with 11 letterwinners for the 2009 campaign.  

C.W. Post will travel to play in the Rebel Spring Games Mar. 8-14 in Kissimmee, Fla., which will include regional opponents, Stonehill College, LeMoyne College and nationally-ranked Minnesota State University Mankato.  

"Our 2009 schedule is one of the toughest schedules that we have ever put together for the Pioneers," says Apicella.  "We are excited to challenge ourselves right away with accomplished programs nationally both in the Catawba Tournament and the Rebel Spring Games."
 
The Pioneers return to Brookville to host non-conference opponents American International College (Mar. 21) will play LeMoyne (Mar. 22) before opening conference play against Mercy College on Mar. 24. 
 
The Pioneers will embark on a swing through New England, beginning with the University of New Haven on Apr. 7 followed by Merrimack College (Apr. 9), University of Massachusetts Lowell (Apr. 10), Southern New Hampshire University (Apr. 11) and ending with the University of Bridgeport (Apr. 14). 
 
The Pioneers will host non-conference Dominican College Apr. 16 and Adelphi University before traveling to Caldwell College Apr. 22.  

"Each season is unique where it brings about a new chemistry, new talent and fresh faces to mold into the team concept," continues Apicella.  "Challenging ourselves early will be a true test in what type of team we will have in 2009 and will set us up for the rest of the season and prepare us for post season play."
 
C.W. Post closes out its regular season with three contests at home against Molloy College (Apr. 23), New York Institute of Technology (Apr. 25) and Georgian Court (Apr. 26).

The East Coast Conference Championship tournament begins Apr. 29, which will be hosted by New York Institute of Technology (NYIT).
