Medina, Yodowitz Collect ECC Weekly Honors

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (May 12, 2008) – Sophomore centerfielder Melissa Medina (Levittown, N.Y.) was named this week's East Coast Conference Player of the Week while senior Samantha Yodowitz (Suffern, N.Y.) was named Pitcher of the Week for their outstanding performances at the Northeast Softball Regional.

The Pioneers (48-14) claimed their second straight regional title with a 9-2 win over the University of New Haven and completed the tournament with a 4-0 record.

Medina batted .688 (11-17) during the NCAA Northeast Regional and was named the tournament's most outstanding player. She scored seven runs with one RBI and also went 2-2 in stolen bases in the final game against New Haven.

Yodowitz recorded a 4-0 record during the NCAA Northeast Regional. She recorded 28 innings pitched and held batters to a .181 batting average while also recording her 30th career shutout against Caldwell. Yodowitz is now 8-0 in regional play since 2007.

The Pioneers will play Emporia State (44-15) on Wednesday, May 14 at 5:30 p.m. in the first round of the College World Series at Memorial Park in Houston, Texas.
