Yodowitz's One-Hitter Leads No. 9 Softball Past Caldwell, 2-0

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (May 8, 2008) – Samantha Yodowitz (Suffern, N.Y.) pitched a one-hit shutout and went 2-for-3 at the plate, as 9th-ranked softball advanced to the winners bracket final of the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships with a 2-0 win over Caldwell College on Thursday afternoon.
The Pioneers improve to 46-14 overall, setting a new school record for wins in a season, as Caldwell slips to 34-21 on the season.
The Pioneers got all the offense they would need in the second inning, as
Melissa Hippo (Granite Bay, Calif.) was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Yodowitz dropped down a bunt, and the throw by the Caldwell third baseman sailed into right field, moving the runners to second and third.
Holly Eringis (Tewksbury, Mass.) came through with a double to left center, plating Hippo and Yodowitz for a 2-0 lead.
Yodowitz made the lead stand up as she did not allow a runner past second base the entire game, striking out three batters and walking none as she improved to 28-6 on the season.
Melissa Medina (Levittown, N.Y.) also chipped in with two hits for the Pioneers.
Brittany Pulido took the loss for Caldwell, allowing seven runs on seven hits. Carrie Flasphaler had the only hit for the Cougars.
C.W. Post advances to the winner's bracket final against LeMoyne, a 9-1 winner over Bryant, scheduled for tomorrow, May 9, at 2 p.m.
Caldwell will face Adelphi, a 13-10 winner over NYIT, in the 11:30 a.m. game tomorrow, May 9.
