Softball Trio Named ECAC All-Stars
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (June 18, 2008) - After making the team's second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division II Championship round-of-eight in program history this year, three members of the record-setting C.W. Post softball team were tabbed on the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division II Softball All-Star Team recently. Senior pitcher Samantha Yodowitz (Suffern, N.Y.), senior first baseman Holly Eringis (Tewksbury, Mass.) and sophomore outfielder Melissa Medina (Levittown, N.Y.) all garnered accolades for their play in 2008.
All three players were cited on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's All-Northeast Region First Team as well as the All-East Coast Conference First Team.
Yodowitz posted a 30-8 record with a 1.62 ERA, striking out 192 batters in 244 innings. She was equally impressive at the plate, batting .342 with 39 RBI, leading the Pioneers with eight homeruns and 20 extra-base hits. The senior lefty started every game in the Pioneers' post-season, posting a 3-0 record in the ECC Tournament, and a 4-0 record in the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship.
Eringis batted .357 on the season with eight doubles and four home runs, and 27 RBI despite suffering a broken thumb in the later part of the season. Defensively, she posted outstanding numbers from her first base position, making only four errors in 403 chances.
Medina had one of the best season in Pioneers history from her leadoff spot in the batting order, batting .427 with 91 hits, 22 RBI and 36 stolen bases. Her .474 on base percentage was tops on the team along with her 56 runs scored. Medina also made only one error all season in center field.
C.W. Post went 48-16 in 2008, setting a program record for wins in a season in the process. The Pioneers won their second straight NCAA Division II Championship Northeast Regional title, as well.
