- Maria Sonnerborg's goal in the 92nd minute gave the Pioneers the overtime winner against East Coast Conference and crosstown rival Adelphi University, 1-0 on Saturday evening at Competition Field.

The Pioneers remain unbeaten at 5-0 overall and 1-0 in ECC play, while Adelphi slips to 3-2 and 0-1 in the ECC.

Sonnerborg's goal, coming off a pass from Melissa Pascarella (Sayville, N.Y.) was the first shot of the overtime period for the Pioneers, following two halves of scoreless play in which goalkeeper Allie Weiser (Grand Island, N.Y.) made one save, but was instrumental in stopping several Adelphi breakaways in the box.

Adelphi held a 7-6 edge in shots for the game, but the Pioneers had the advantage in corner kicks, with a 5-2 count over the Panthers.

The Pioneers return to action as the host Southern Connecticut on Sept. 17 at 4 p.m.
