Double-Overtime Goal Pushes Southern New Hampshire Past No. 6 Women's Soccer, 2-1

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 20, 2008) – Deadlocked for two halves and close to two overtimes, the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire found the back of the net in the 104th minute of the game, breaking a 1-1 tie and giving them the upset over No. 6 women's soccer on Saturday afternoon on Robert Blitz Field.
The Pioneers slip to 6-1 overall and suffer their first loss of the season, while the Penmen improve to 3-1-1 on the season.
Nicole Ebner's goal off an Ariel Teixeira assist in the 13th minute put SNHU on top 1-0, but just five minutes later the Pioneers evened the score to one apiece as
Ivana Babic (Haninge, Sweden) took a pass from
Maria Sonnerborg (Bjarred, Sweden) and knocked it in for the equalizer.
A scoreless second half sent the game into overtime, and after the first 10-minute overtime period the score remained 1-1.
With only five minutes remaining in the second overtime period, Teixeira struck again, as she sent a Kristina Cardoso pass past Pioneer keeper
Deanna Esposito (Sayville, N.Y.) for the win.
The teams were relatively evenly matched in shots, as the Penmen took 15 to the Pioneers' 13, with C.W. Post holding a 2-1 advantage in corners.
Esposito made two saves in the net for the Pioneers, as her Penmen counterpart, Stef Young, made five stops in the win.
The Pioneers will next travel to Holy Family on Sept. 24 for a non-conference matchup starting at 4 p.m.
