Women's Soccer Shuts Out Holy Family, 3-0

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Sept. 24, 2008)- The C.W. Post women's soccer team shut out Holy Family University 3-0 Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference contest. The Pioneers improved their record to 7-1-0 while Holy Family dropped to 3-5-1.
Senior Maria Sonnerborg (Bjarred, Sweden) started the Pioneers off with a 1-0 lead 11:51 into the first half. Sonnerborg netted a feed in from teammate Ivana Babic (Haninge, Sweden) to put C.W. Post on the board. Junior Sam Boschetti (Rockaway, N.J.) followed Sonnerborg's suit twenty minutes later, as headed a loose ball off a corner, giving the Pioneers a two goal cushion.
Sanna Petterson (Fellingsbro, Sweden) continued the scoring streak for C.W. Post in the beginning of the second half. She scored her first goal of the season of an assist from junior Melissa Pascarella (Sayville, N.Y.).
Freshman Allie Weiser (Grand Island, N.Y.) had five saves in net for the Pioneers, earning her third shutout for the season. Michelle Giambrone also had five saves in goal for Holy Family.
C.W. Post will take the field again Saturday as they travel to Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. to take on conference rival Mercy College.
