Cross Country Opens Season With Second Place Finish at Hofstra Invitational

BETHPAGE, N.Y. (Sep. 6, 2008)- The C.W. Post cross country team opened its season at the Hofstra Invitational Saturday afternoon, scoring a second place finish for the women.
The women had three runners finish within the top 25 for the day, racking up a total of 60 points for the team. They placed just ahead of last year's Hofstra Invitational winner, St. Joseph's college, who took third place this year with 73 points. The 2008 Invitational title was clinched by Adelphi University, who had 15 points.

Kristen Sweeney# (Kennebunkport, Maine) led the Pioneer pack, crossing the finish line with a time of 21 minutes, 01.23 seconds. Her 11th place finish gained six points for the team, helping them to their second place finish. #
Nicole Wissler# (Mineola, N.Y.) was the first of the freshman to finish, and the second woman for Post, clocking in at 21:15.12. She placed 17th in the race, with a time of 21 minutes and 15.12 seconds, acquiring 8 points for the women. Shortly behind Wissler was sophomore #
Allison O'Leary# (Holbrook, N.Y.), who completed the 5K run in 24th place with a time of 21 minutes and 55.31 seconds.
Maria Costello (Patchogue, N.Y.) was the fourth Pioneer to cross the line, garnering a 33rd place finish with a final time of 22:34.71. She was followed by juniors #
Erin Lusenskas# (East Atlantic Beach, N.Y.) and #
Kristin Coscia# (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) who placed 53rd and 56th, respectively.
The men's side was led by junior #
Thomas Brouillard# (Syosset, N.Y.) who took a 24th place finish with a time of 17 minutes and 52.94 seconds. He was followed by teammate #
Anthony Walcott# (Mastic Beach, N.Y.), who clocked in at 18:49.45.
The C.W. Post Cross Country team will be back in action at the Lock Haven Invitational on Saturday, September 13 starting at 10:30 a.m.
