BROOKHAVEN, N.Y. (Oct. 14, 2009)- The Dowling College Golden Lions scored a quick second half goal to propel themselves past the C.W. Post Pioneers, 1-0, in an East Coast Conference showdown Wednesday evening.
The Golden Lions improve to 10-2-1 overall, 4-0 in the ECC, while the Pioneers fall to 8-4-1overall, 2-1 in conference play.
Despite a collective 13 shots taken, the two teams held each other scoreless throughout the first half. Dowling exploded into the second half as Dowling senior Vanessa Moreira (Selden, N.Y.) took an 18 yard shot past Pioneer goalkeeper
Allie Weiser (Grand Island, N.Y.) to score the lone goal of the game and ensure a victory for the Golden Lions in the 50th minute.

Melissa Pascarella (Sayville, N.Y.) each registered two shots on goal in an attempt to bring the Pioneers out on top.
Weiser made a total of three saves in net for C.W. Post. Dowling keepers Cassandra Cronin (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) and Sara Sullivan (Levittown, N.Y.) combined in net for the Golden Lions to earn the win, making four saves and one save in goal, respectively.
The Pioneers held a 2-1 advantage in corner kicks, while Dowling outshot C.W. Post by an 18-7 margin.
C.W. Post takes the field again Oct. 17 as the Pioneers travel to St. Thomas Aquinas for a 4 p.m. ECC matchup.
