Bridgeport Edges Out Women's Soccer In Regular Season Finale, 2-1

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Oct. 31, 2009)- C.W. Post women's soccer dropped a close 2-1 decision to East Coast Conference rival University of Bridgeport in the Pioneers' final regular season game Saturday evening.
C.W. Post completes the regular season with an overall record of 12-5-1, 5-2 in the ECC. The Purple Knights improve to 14-1-3 overall, 6-1 in conference play.
After both teams experiencing a scoreless first half, Bridgeport struck just 38 seconds into the second half as Sophia Hoflin (Ostersund, Sweden) knocked in a rebound off a save by Pioneers keeper
Allie Weiser (Grand Island, N.Y.) to give the Purple Knights a 1-0. Junior Linda Velaj (Stamford, Conn.) found the back of the net at the 50:48 mark as she converted a pass from teammate Ceri Harris (Bury St. Edmunds, Wales) to give Bridgeport a two goal cushion. C.W. Post junior
Qaroline Nahl (Kumla, Sweden) attempted to rally the Pioneers back as she fed a pass from the right side to senior forward
Melissa Pascarella (Sayville, N.Y.). Pascarella rifled a shot from the left side of the box to past Purple Knights goalkeeper Emelie Karstrom (Everod, Sweden), bringing the score to 2-1. Her efforts proved to fall short as Bridgeport maintained its one goal lead for the remainder of the game.
Weiser made a total of 11 saves in net for C.W. Post. Karstrom blocked seven shots to ensure the win for the Purple Knights.
C.W. Post is back in action Friday, November 6, as it prepares to compete in the East Coast Conference semifinals.
