BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Nov. 25, 2009) – C.W. Post head softball coach Jamie Apicella announced five players that have signed National Letters of Intent. Brittany Agostini (Middletown, Del./Middletown), Carly Chamberlain (Nesco, N.J./Oakrest), Jessica Julich (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park), Andrea Smith (Milford, Mass./Milford) and Nicole Hagenah (Commack, N.Y./Commack) will play for the Pioneers beginning in the 2010-11 academic year.

"I am very excited these five young ladies have committed to playing at C.W. Post," said Head Coach Jamie Apicella. "All are not only great athletes but tremendous people that will be a great addition to our program and the C.W. Post community."
Britney Agostini

Apicella on Agostini: “Brittany is a versatile athlete that has great range, speed and arm strength and can hit in the middle of the lineup,” says Apicella. “She is a run producer and with her speed and explosiveness she has the ability to steal bases.”

Agostini can play anywhere up the middle. As a junior at Middletown, she batted .437 and drove in 30 runs on 31 hits, including six home runs. Agostini plays travel ASA summer ball for the Jersey Nightmare Gold and also will be playing basketball at C.W. Post for Coach Deirdre Moore on the hardwood.

Carly Chamberlain
Apicella on Chamberlain:  “
Carly is a tremendous athlete that will bring great passion and energy to the program. She has explosive speed and a dynamic style of play. She is a great communicator on the field and will play each inning with great enthusiasm, preparation and love for the game.”

Chamberlain has led her team in runs scored and stolen bases at Oakcrest. Last season, she batted .466 and was named the Offensive Player of the Year. Chamberlain is also a member of the Jersey Nightmare Gold.

Apicella on Julich: “Jessica is a smooth-fielding outfielder with incredible range, a strong arm and a great mental presence.  She has good speed, and
Jessica Julich
is a versatile hitter at the plate. When you watch her play it's obvious that she has great natural ability as an outfielder. Jessica has equally excelled in the classroom and is a great fit for our program.”

At Kings Park, Julich plays second base as well as the outfield and was named all-league last season.   She plays travel summer ball for the Long Island Sudden Impact Gold.

Andrea Smith
Apicella on Smith: “
Andrea is an experienced pitcher and infielder that can also be called on to play a corner outfield position. She has a great swing and can hit to all fields. She plays for Coach Brian Macchi at Milford, who was a former baseball player for Boston College. Coach Macchi did a great job teaching Andrea the fundamentals of the game which will allow her to make a quick transition into the college game.”

Smith earned the distinction of Rookie of the Year and the league's Most Valuable Player while at Milford. She is a two-time all-star and was selected to the Softball Super Team the last two years. An excellent student-athlete in the classroom, she received C.W. Post's Valedictorian/Salutatorian Scholars Award – the school's highest academic award. Smith plays for the Rhode Island Thunder Gold in the summer.

Apicella on Hagenah: “Nicole has great size and athleticism. She is a leader on the field and has great passion for the game. She is a great student in the classroom.  She is a true utility player who can play most positions in the infield. That versatility is a real bonus and she could play catcher, second, first or even third base for us because she has a great arm. She knows the game, has a good presence defensively wherever she plays, and is a line-drive, gap type of hitter. ”
Nicole Hagenah

Hagenah is a run producer and is projected to hit in the middle of the lineup. She was voted the League II Player of the Year and was also selected First Team All-Long Island and Third Team All-State. Hagenah received the distinction of NFCA Regional All-American while playing at Commack. She has quality summer ball experience with the Long Island Heat.
