Sonnerborg, Krskova Named ECC Scholar Athlete of the Year

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY (Mar. 13, 2009)- The East Coast Conference released its picks for Scholar Athlete of the Year for the Fall 2008 season Friday afternoon. C.W. Post Pioneer Maria Sonnerborg (Bjarred, Sweden) earned the honor of being named 2008 Women's Soccer Scholar Athlete of the Year, while fellow Pioneer Lucia Krskova (Prievidza, Slovakia) was picked as the 2008 Volleyball Scholar Athlete of the Year.

Sonnerborg is a business major who has earned herself a 3.905 GPA. An ECC Second Team All-Conference pick, Sonnerborg helped the Pioneers to win their second straight East Coast Conference title and advance to the second round of the NCAA Championships. She was the leading scorer for C.W. Post, with 17 goals and four assists this season.

Krskova, a business management major, holds a 3.757 GPA as a senior. She dished out 3.36 assists per game while slamming 2.38 kills per game for the season. Defensively, Krskova earned 1.86 digs per game while notching .46 blocks per game.

Earning a scholar athlete honorable mention were men's soccer palyer Julian Escobar (Hicksville, NY), along with women's cross-country member Kristen Sweeney (Kennebunkport, Maine) and Alexis Kramer (Dix Hills, NY) a member of the C.W. Post women's tennis team.
