BRONXVILLE, N.Y. (March 31, 2009) – Freshmen
Kerry Fisher (Barto, Pa.) and
Lindsey Trotto (Princeton, Mass.) each drove in two runs as C.W. Post completed a two-game sweep of Concordia College in East Coast Conference softball Tuesday afternoon on Clipper Field.
C.W. Post improves to 13-9 overall and 5-1 in conference play while Concordia slips to 6-10 overall and 0-6 in ECC action.
Concordia took a 1-0 lead in the first when sophomore pitcher Alexa Rosella singled through the right side to score sophomore second baseman Dena Frederick from third with two outs.
The Pioneers found an answer in the third when freshman catcher
Kristen Morcone (Milford, Mass.), who led off the inning with a single to centerfield, scored from third on a single from junior centerfielder
Melissa Medina (Levittown, N.Y.). The go-ahead run was scored later in the inning when Fisher singled to left field, bringing home Medina from third.
C.W. Post got a strong pitching performance from sophomore
Christina Berardi (Raynham, Mass.) went the distance in the circle for the Pioneers and allowed one earned run on six hits with five strikeouts and one issued walk.
Rosella took the loss for Concordia, allowing two runs on seven hits with three walks while striking out four. Sophomore shortstop Jamie Lorenzo led the way offensively, batting 2-for-3 at the plate.
In game two, junior shortstop
Christie Softy (Floral Park, N.Y.) staked the Pioneers to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when she hit a one-out sacrifice fly to centerfield, scoring Medina, who led off with a walk, from third.
C.W. Post cushioned its lead in the third when Trotto singled to centerfield to drive in two runs. The Pioneers scored two additional runs in the fourth with RBI singles from
Kerry Fisher and senior first baseman
Ashley Marchese (Patchogue, N.Y.). The sixth run of the game was scored in the top of the seventh when junior leftfielder
Katie Fisher (Barto, Pa.) led off with a double to left field and came around to score on a fielder's choice.
Sophomore
Sarah Kiser (Cooper City, Fla.) dominated the Clipper lineup, allowing just three hits and one walk while striking out four batters in seven innings.
In all, five Pioneer batters recorded two hits apiece. Medina went 1-for-4 with two runs scored.
C.W. Post stays on the road to play a conference doubleheader at St. Thomas Aquinas on Thursday, April 2 at 3 p.m.
