Marchese, Softy Lead No. 14 Softball Past Dowling; 4-1, 6-0

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (April 17, 2009)
– Senior Ashley Marchese (Patchogue, N.Y.) and junior Christie Softy (Floral Park, N.Y.) each drove in three runs as No. 14 C.W. Post swept a doubleheader from Dowling College, 4-1 and 6-0, Friday afternoon in East Coast Conference softball action.
C.W. Post improves to 27-11 overall and 11-1 in conference play. Dowling falls to 26-16 overall and 10-2 in ECC action.

In the opening game, the Pioneers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Softy hit an RBI single to left field. Dowling tied the game in the top of the third when second baseman Lisa Compitello doubled down the left field line to drive in centerfielder Keri Boystak from first.

The Pioneers broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth beginning with a two-run shot to left centerfield off the bat of Soft y followed by a solo home run to left field from senior third baseman Megan Correia (Seekonk, Mass.).

Sophomore Christina Berardi (Raynham, Mass.) earned her 13th win and allowed one run on two hits while fanning five batters.

Senior Stephanie Plochochi allowed four earned runs on five hits while striking out five batters.

In the nightcap, the Pioneers jumped to a 1-0 lead after an RBI single from senior designated player Shannon Kulnis (Flemington, N.J.) in the bottom of the first before exploding for five runs in the sixth that was highlighted by a bases-clearing triple from Marchese. 
Marchese batted 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored. Sophomore Sarah Kiser (Cooper City, Fla.) went the distance and scattered five hits.

Sophomore Katie Cameron allowed two earned runs on 11 hits while striking out three batters in six innings.

C.W. Post returns to action April 19 to host Adelphi University at 12 p.m.
