– The C.W. Post softball team split an East Coast Conference doubleheader with Adelphi University, taking the first game, 4-3, before dropping game two, 9-0, Sunday afternoon at the Softball Complex.
The loss ended an 11-game winning streak as the Pioneers slipped to 28-12 overall and 12-2 in conference play. Adelphi improved its record to 24-12 and 8-4 in conference action.

In the opener, the Panthers took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning that was highlighted by a two-run single from second baseman Kristin Brennan.

The Pioneers came back in the bottom half of the inning and put two on the board after junior shortstop Christie Softy (Floral Park, N.Y.) hit a fly ball to centerfield that was dropped by the centerfielder, allowing junior centerfielder Melissa Medina (Levittown, N.Y.) and freshman second baseman Kerry Fisher (Barto, Pa.) to score.

In the sixth inning, Softy hit an RBI single up the middle to score Kerry Fisher, who had reached base on a fielding error by the shortstop. Junior leftfielder Katie Fisher (Barto, Pa.) drove in the go-ahead run with a double to left field that scored pinch runner Lindsey Trotto (Princeton, Mass.) from first base.

Sophomore Christina Berardi (Raynham, Mass.) earned her 13th win of the season and sophomore Sarah Kiser (Cooper City, Fla.) earned the save. Berardi pitched six innings and allowed one earned run on three hits while striking out four batters. Kiser came in relief in the seventh with one runner on and got the next two batters to fly out while striking out the final batter to end the game.

Junior Christine Robinson took the loss, allowing one earned run on five hits while striking out eight batters for Adelphi.

In game two, Adelphi outhit the Pioneers, 15-5, and scored runs in all but two innings. The Panthers put two on the board in the second by way of back-to-back home runs off the bats of Brennan and senior first baseman Christina O'Hara.

Adelphi plated additional runs in the third when senior shortstop Jessica Vogt blasted a two-run homer to right field.

Senior centerfielder Samantha Johnston hit a two-run shot to centerfield in the sixth inning and later hit an RBI double in the seventh inning.

Sophomore Leighann Bell went the distance in the pitching circle for the Panthers and scattered five hits while issuing one walk.

Kiser took the loss, allowing four earned runs on six hits in two and two thirds innings. Freshman Hayley Choquette-Bettles (Surrey, British Columbia) and sophomore Morgan Bell (Branchville, N.J.) provided relief in the game.

Junior right fielder Katie Brophy batted 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored while Brennan went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored.
