BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (April 26, 2009) – Sophomore Sarah Kiser (Cooper City, Fla.) pitched a complete game with 12 strikeouts as No. 14 C.W. Post won the nightcap to split a doubleheader with Georgian Court Sunday afternoon. The Lions took the first game, 7-0, before C.W. Post came back to win game two, 2-0.
C.W. Post's overall record now stands at 30-16 while Georgian Court is 32-15.
The Pioneers scored both their runs in the bottom half of the second inning on account of an RBI single from freshman catcher Kristen Morcone (Milford, Mass.) and a bases-loaded walk from junior centerfielder Melissa Medina (Levittown, N.Y.).
Kiser allowed four hits and gave up three walks while facing 29 batters.
Junior Amanda France took the loss, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out two batters and issuing three walks.
In the opener, the Lion bats were well at work as they rapped out 14 hits in the game, including a one-out grand slam from senior third baseman Stephanie Cuevas as part of a five-run series in the second inning.
Georgian Court scored two runs in the top of the first on back-to-back singles from Cuevas and freshman first baseman Kelsey Cutler.
Sophomore Diane Sansevera pitched a gem for the Lions, scattering four hits through seven innings while fanning four batters and issuing one walk.
Sophomore Christina Berardi (Raynham, Mass.) allowed three runs on six hits after one inning. Freshman Hayley Choquette-Bettles (Surrey, British Columbia) came into the game and pitched six innings of relief and let up four runs on six hits with four strikeouts and one walk.
Cuevas batted 3 for 4 in the game with five RBI and a run scored.
