NFCA All-Region Teams
STARKVILLE, Miss. (May 14, 2009) – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association released its 2009 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II All-Region teams and C.W. Post received three selections. Two 13-member teams were selected for eight NCAA regions, totaling 107 student-athletes. All members are eligible for NFCA All-America teams.
Junior shortstop Christie Softy (Floral Park, N.Y.) garnered First Team honors for the third straight year. Sophomore pitcher Sarah Kiser (Cooper City, Fla.) and junior outfielder Melissa Medina (Levittown, N.Y.) were named to the Second Team.
Softy batted .354 and drove in 47 runs on 57 hits while coming around to score 31 times. 27 of her hits went for extra bases that included 11 home runs. Earlier this season, Softy helped the Pioneers win eight straight games between April 9 and April 14, when she hit seven home runs, including four against Southern New Hampshire.
Kiser, who was voted East Coast Conference Pitcher of the Year, pitched 156 innings and allowed 35 runs on 123 hits while striking out 178 batters. Kiser posted an 18-4 record and pitched 20 complete games with eight shutouts.
In 172 plate appearances, Medina tallied 64 hits and came around to score 38 runs. She batted .372 at the plate and registered a team-high 17 multiple hit games. Starting every game in centerfield, Medina was perfect with a 1.000 fielding percentage with 66 putouts.
C.W. Post (34-18) captured its second straight East Coast Conference title and went on to host its third straight NCAA East Regional.
