Babic Propels No. 25 Women's Soccer Past Bloomsburg, 4-0, In Season Opener
BLOOMSBURG, Pa. (August 27, 2009)- Junior Ivana Babic (Haninge, Sweden) registered a hat trick with three goals and one assist as the 25th-ranked C.W. Post Pioneers downed Bloomsburg University 4-0 in their season opener Thursday afternoon. C.W. Post makes a strong start to its season with a 1-0 record, while the Huskies fall to 0-1.
Babic struck quick, putting the Pioneers on the board and recording her first goal of the afternoon off an assist from senior Lindsey Nick (Hauppauge, N.Y.) just eight minutes into play. Babic continued to gain an advantage for C.W. Post as she scored an unassisted goal at the 19:17 mark to give the Pioneers a 2-0 advantage at the half.
Junior Qaroline Nahl (Kumla, Sweden) increased the Pioneers' lead as she knocked in a pass from Babic less than three minutes into the second half. Senior forward Melissa Pascarella (Sayville, N.Y.) earned an assist, feeding Babic four her fourth and final goal of the game at the 50:16 mark.
Freshman keeper Nicole Fierro (East Hampton, N.Y.) earned herself a shutout in her debut in a Pioneers uniform, making five saves to secure the win for C.W. Post.
The Pioneers held a 27-6 advantage in shots over the Huskies.
C.W. Post is back in action Saturday, August 29 as they travel to East Stroudsburg University for a 1 p.m. matchup.
