BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 15, 2009) – The C.W. Post women's soccer rebounded from two scoreless previous outings in a big way, scoring a goal just nine minutes into the contest, as the Pioneers defeated Queen College 2-0 on Tuesday afternoon on Robert Blitz field.
C.W. Post wins the East Coast Conference opener and improves to 4-1-1 and 1-0 in conference play, while Queens slips to 2-3-1, and 0-1 in the ECC.
Junior forward Qaroline Nahl (Kumla, Sweden) scored her fourth goal of the season on a five-yard shot over the head of Queens goalkeeper Allison Breakey (Frankfort, Ill.). Nahl was set up for the goal on a ten-yard cross from the left side by fellow junior forward Ivana Babic (Haninge, Sweden).
At 37:08, sophomore forward Sanna Pettersson (Orebro, Sweden) beat Breakey to the bottom left corner of the goal, with Anna Svensson (Stockholm, Sweden) earning the assist with her header to set up Pettersson's score.
Freshman goalkeeper Nicole Fierro (East Hampton, N.Y.) earned the victory and the shutout with three saves in 90 minutes of play. Breakey made three saves as well in the loss. C.W. Post outshot Queens 6-4, and held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The Pioneers return to action on September 21 as they host Pace in a 4 p.m. non-conference contest.
